Intro

The screams of my obnoxiously bright tank tops and board shorts disrupted the silence of the desolate Auckland International airport as I strangled them to the bottom of my 80 pound green backpack that could barely contain the struggle. For the countless days of even my sweat sweating had been traded for the frigid winds of New Zealand. The transition was easy you see, not because of my acceptance into Gandalf's You Shall Not Pass University (third best after Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Professor Xavier's School for the Gifted) but because of the outlandish Thai logic that I was confronted with during my last week while in Thailand. But I digress, you already know about my deep rooted hatred toward Thai rationale from how famous my previous
is amongst the illiterate.

Prior to reading this second attempt at a travel journal, you may have some questions that you want answered. And like any crime show or suspenseful movie, I'll answer these mysteries in the beginning rather than wait until the end.

"Why New Zealand?" asks Katie Couric.
Well Kate, frankly it was the cheapest and most viable option. Australia was out of the question as its $400 for a working Holiday Visa, which means its a trillion and something Thai Baht. New Zealand on the other hand, offers free Holiday Visas for U.S. citizens-but you'll have to ask Donald Trump if you fall into that category. Ahhh yes, I forgot...I also hate Asian people.

"Where exactly is this 'New Zealand' you speak of?" implores Anderson Cooper.
I have no idea. I was blindfolded, gagged, and sent to what I believe is an Island. Once Liam Neeson realizes I'm his daughter, I'll have more information on my whereabouts when he finds me.

"What can we expect to read here?" probes Diane Sawyer.
Pretty much a lot of spelling and grammar errors. The consistent incorrect usage of 'then' and 'than.' Really uneventful and monotone writing. Crude and inappropriate humor that most people ponder yet fail to say in fear of social backlash. Cheesy Lord of the Rings references, and of course, interpretive dance demonstrations and their correlation to my bowel movements.

In preparation for further reading, please ensure that your pillows are fluffed and tv tray tables are in their full upright sturdy position, your belt buckle is loose and your pants are fully unbuttoned and all essential items are within arms reach. With this said ladies and gentleman, I hope you enjoy this journey with me...Denzel Washington.

An Abrupt Goodbye

Perhaps it's the pint of Isaac's Apple Cider that I just consumed, or maybe it's watching the green terrain of New Zealand fade into the distance, but I'm feeling awfully nostalgic. I was once written a letter by a dear friend who proposed that what makes traveling so special is the fleeting nature of it all. On every occasion I would full heartedly agree, but for some reason this occasion seems different. Once again, with a broken heart, I find myself rushing out of a country as a coping mechanism in attempts to distance myself from the one degree of separation in Auckland. I suppose it's well needed time to recover from the exhaustion of trying to carry a relationship that always had an expiration date on it.

One thing I do know though, is that Kiwi's made an impact on my life greater than what I expected. It's quite easy to take for granted the people you see everyday. The elderly religious couple that sing about the word of God on Queen St. The employees that you grow close to during ridiculous shifts and snobby customers. The friends you lean on in hopes that they provide you with sage words of advice. It's not until you're on a plane eating an unexpectedly delicious curry that you begin to realize how much you'll miss the people that played an essential role in your life for the last year.

It's an odd thing when you solidify your plans for the future, only to realize how much better things are going. An awesome gig on a food truck with a man that cares about quality rather than the amount of green in his pocket. A sun that found the courage to come out of hibernation. A glimmer of your lost self esteem by friends telling you how you've changed their life. That at its very origins, you had the amazing opportunity to assist in facilitating these unique personalities into a tight knit family.

I suppose, to sum it all up, and you know who you are; I want to thank you for sharing your life with me. I want to thank you for partaking in adventures that'll forever be ingrained in your mind if someone asks you for a good story. I want to thank you for being an ear to listen to me complain, a smile for me through my adolescent humor, and admiring my childlike sense of wonder. I want to thank you for walking me right up to the international departures gate, for coming to the countless number of evens I planned, and for being my roommate, even though you leave the occasional poo in the toilet. I want you to know that I cry at moments when I'm overwhelmed with joy or burdened with a great loss, and it's hard for me to decipher why I'm crying right now.

Thank you for bringing meaning to my wandering soul New Zealand.

With Love,

Cam
